Looking for something to fill some unexpected spare time, Ian became a Forget Me Not shop volunteer. And a very dedicated one at that - Ian lends his time and energy to not just one but two of our shops!
When Ian’s employer suddenly reduced his hours, he started to look around for something to fill his time. He did a bucket collection for us at a supermarket, but thought “I could do more.”
So he started volunteering in our Almondbury shop. Now he does two mornings there a week and an afternoon at our shop in Slaithwaite. He’s that dedicated!
Working the till, helping customers with their donations and purchases, covering for the shop manager when she’s off, Ian says he volunteers because “I wanted to do something valuable with my time. I always felt, in my job, that it was just about making more money. Here, I feel like I’m doing something good.” Not only that, but “it’s a laugh too!”
When it comes down to it, Ian does it because “I enjoy it.” To anyone thinking of volunteering, he says, “try it - it’s fun and you really feel like you’re achieving something!”
